UPON ANSWERING, PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A MATURE QUESTION....IM LOOKING FOR A MATURE RESPONSE....THX

anyone every tried the medication chlomid? my friend said that it works well because she had prblm ovulating..and i wanted to know how true this was.....
any of you all tried and was it a success???

FrogdReameR --- 12 years ago -

When taking Clomid you have to keep a few things in mind. Not everyone is the same so for some it may work in the extreme(hence a possible side effect being multiples) others it may work regular (a single child in the pregnancy) and other it doesn't work because their cycles are just too few and far between when ovulation actually happens. I had a happy accident before taking it but I have a few friends who have taken it. For a couple of them it did not work, the reasons for it not working are not known. For a couple of others it worked one had twins the other had a single. There are those who have had success once with it but the second time around it didn't work. Again it all has to do with your body. The only way to know for sure is to try it. I know it is not the answer you are looking for but it is the honest truth. I will say though the success rate is fairly high.

I am on clomid right now, and conceived my daughter with a combo of it, and metformin. This time around I am on month 5, and still no ovulation, but last time it only took 2 rounds, so it depends on a lot of different factors. For a women with PCOS (me) the success rate is 85 percent, They will not give it to you if you are ovulating on your own though, and there is a LOT of workups to see if/and why you would not be getting pregnant. I have been dealing with this for over 10 years, so feel free to ask any questions you have, im not shy :) message me if you want.

I'm on it right now as well. It works as far as making me ovulate but the rest is up to us.

In my case my OB is about to put me clomid even though I'm ovulating on my own.

We've done tests and are still unsure as to why I can't get pregnant. While I'm deciding on which route to go for IVF (civilian facility or military facility) they suggested putting me on Clomid.

thank you all for your honesty!
I am really contemplating my options at this point... um, do they have to run a whole lot of test on you before deciding to prescribe you something to help fertility??? or is it just that they start you off with it....

A1431441uu- im sorry youve been dealing with this for so long, good luck to you...blessings to you and your unborn...

Maleficent-(lol,that name reminds me of sleeping beauty) anyway... do you have that dr at the naval hospital? and how come they didnt "run tests" on you before just giving you clomid....did you already know you werent ovulating?
i have an appt next thursday,im hoping i get it!

I had tests done in Nc while we were there. I had a 24 hour urine thing, an HSG to make sure my Fallopian tubes weren't blocked. A few blood tests. We had been trying since jan 2010 and my period just stopped for 2 years.

I currently see a doc at the naval hospital. I want to say her name is Kim but that might be wrong.

oooooooooo ohhh, okay.. so there IS a process...okay, ill definatly keep this in mind. thank you so much for your input, i appreciate it!

I was referred out to a fertility endocronologist in econdido that is helping me, but Dr. Hart, at the OB on base can help with it as well, and she is very nice....If you are not ovulating, and have pcos then they will check to see if your tubes are open, and then check your hubby to make sure its not him, and then 24 hour urine, and blood testing (those 2 diagnose the pcos) and then they should start you off on metformin first (only if you have pcos though)
because it alone can jumpstart ovulation, and then after 6 months or so if it has not started working, they will talk about clomid. This is only for pcos though, so if you have a different reason for infertility then it will be different :)

thank you for the info...im going to look into it.

Even if you do not have PCOS they will do the dye test. I was misdiagnosed with PCOS because I'm heavy. It's the go-to diagnosis for overweight women with fertility issues. Luckily, the gyn at the NH was able to tell me that it is happening because of my weight and nothing else. Which is true because I lost most of the weight while
My husband was deployed and my cycle came back and I was ovulating. Then he came home and wanted nothing but junk and we moved here so traveling didn't fair so well for me- all things in my control but I was weak. Lol and I'm not that heavy either. I'm 185 at 5'7". So, bare this is mind and if any of you are a little heavy, consider a bit of a change if possible before seeking treatment. I'm working m weight off again now as we are trying so that if it happens I can still do moderate exercise while I'm pregnant to ensure I don't gain too much. And please don't take offense to anything I've said. I don't know you all so you could all be skinny as heck or as big as a house. I'm only sharing my personal story for others to have the knowledge. Not to offend anyone. :)

That's my DR as well for the past 2 years :) I absolutely love her!! She is very informative.

I did two rounds of clomid with TI then 3 rounds of clomid with IUI. Ended up doing IVF and got pregnant our 1st round with our 17 month old twin boys. I have PCOS and although I do ovulate, my cycles are extremely long.
Like PP's said, you'll have to get all the tests and eliminate any other issues first.
