My daughter will be 5 on Nov. 9, 2012. I was told she was too young to do 'regular' kindergarten, and today i was told she could do the preppy kindergarten but not sure. I am just looking for opinions and experiences with the program. Thanks.
They're calling it kindergarten prep at the school I work at too. Next year when kids have to be five by October, they'll include those kids too. The following year, kids have to be five by September and it will include those kids. It's basically a pre kindergarten class that touches on what they'll be learning when they do start kindergarten, but not as in depth.
It's called preppy kindergarten. I have looked it up and read some on it. I am just wondering if any on here has sent their kids. I am thinking i will wait until next yeat when she is older to go to kindergarten.
This is the first year California is implementing it. Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Each elementary or unified school district must offer transitional kindergarten classes for all children eligible to attend. A child who completes one year in a transitional kindergarten program, shall continue in a kindergarten program for one additional year. A kindergarten continuance form is not needed for transitional kindergarten. A child is eligible for transitional kindergarten if they have their fifth birthday between (EC 48000[c]):
November 2 and December 2 for the 2012–13 school year.
October 2 and December 2 for the 2013–14 school year.
September 2 and December 2 for the 2014–15 school year and each school year thereafter.
