My son is having anger issues that I can not seem to get to the core of. Does anybody know of a childrens behavioral health specialist (child shrink) Also i think he would prefer a male doc, someone to look up to/ relate to. Thanks for any suggestions.

you can always check with MilitaryOneSource - http://www.militaryonesource.mil or 1.800.342.9647

and they will set it up and the first 10 or 12 (I forget how many) sessions PER ISSUE are FREE

NOTW --- 5 years ago -

I just checked their website and here is the information:
Counseling Limitations

Each eligible service member or family member may receive up to 12 sessions, per issue, per counselor at no cost. If you need counseling for a different issue, you must call Military OneSource and speak with a consultant to get another referral for a different counselor. You can see a counselor for a maximum number of 12 sessions.

Those requiring counseling for long-term medical issues will be referred to TRICARE or a military treatment facility.

Dr. White is tricare covered. You do not have to get a referral to see him. Once you see him if both of you think you need to continue being seen then he handles all the paperwork.

Like I said he is amazing with kids. I usually don't share super private stuff on here, but just to give you an idea..... When my middle son had his first stroke the doctors couldn't explain why it had happened, and SOP was to contact cps. When cps was contacted they came out to our home (where my husband & oldest were) and removed our oldest son and took him to a group home. It was like a scene from a bad movie where the cops had my husband pinned into he kitchen and the cps guy grab my son kicking and screaming and carried him one the door. Earlier that day was the first time my oldest had seen "his baby" & he wad still on life support. Long story short we got our son back the next day, but it left him scared for life. For the next 6 months every time someone knocked on the door my oldest hid under his bed screening and wet himself. Things only got worse when a few months later my youngest had another stroke and 2 weeks later dad deployed. I finally took my oldest to see Dr. White out of desperation. After only 3 sessions with Dr. My son smiled. It was the first time he had smiled in almost a year.

My oldest still has issues with anxiety & add but we have been able to help him live as close to a normal life without going into a treatment center or meds. Our family truly see's Dr. White as a mircale worker. I know there are other kids he sees who are having a harder time then our oldest and he has made a huge impact on them as well.

I would strongly encourage you to give him a call. If nothing else, you can always go somewhere else or try something else if it doesn't work out.

So glad that he was able to make progress in his sessions, removal of a child is always traumatic...
