Why didn't they try to find the owner? Instead they jumped to get the cat to the vet to get fixed and UTD with shots...so they could turn around and try and sell the cat for $200? They said they just found the cat last Saturday. It hasn't even been a week yet! If my cat got out and landed on someone's doorstep, I would be heartbroken if they didn't try to find me....and waiting less than 1 week is not long enough!

I have a hard time believing someone would take a cat they've only had 5 days to the vet to get fixed and all that other stuff. I'm calling BS. I say it's their cat and they can no longer take care of it or it's now aggressive towards the other cat. So instead of saying all that they are saying they found it.

Honestly I would take the cat to the vet and get it fixed and I have. However they are cats that I know are strays and have taken time to be able to touch them. My grandma and I both have done it to strays.
Vets have programs with local shelters to fix cats for free or very cheap.

I agree 100%

How did they know he was 15 months old?

I could see if they did the rabies shot and got the cat to the vet because vets require a rabies vaccination but all of that? Nah.

People should at least put up "Found Cat" signs or something.

I've done it. Well, let me explain a bit.

We have 2 cats, my husband found a 3rd one wandering the parking lot of my girls school. He had a collar, but no contact info on him and no microchip. The humane society was full here, and the pound is not a no-kill, so we decided to take him in and attempt to find the owner. Before I let the cat into my house I made him take it to the vet, get the shots, and test the kitty for the FLV. (we had a cat die after we found a stray with FLV and I was not chancing that again.)

Anyways we put up flyers, ad's and called places asking if anyone had reported him missing. No one claimed him, so after a month we decided to keep him and got him fixed.

I would not pay to fix the cat unless I was keeping him, but if a cat comes near my other kitties they better have had their shots and be disease free...

Also in reply to why they are not keeping the kitty, cats need time to get used to each other. one week is not enough in a lot of cases. Jake hated the new cat for almost a month, but Sir. pounce-a-lot was fine with him after about 3 days.

I completely agree. We got a cat 2 weeks ago. At first, she was a completely scared of the new situation and pretty much attacked anyone that got close to her. Now that the first week is over she runs out from her hiding space and jumps on our lap looking for love.

I've also fostered cats in the past and for some cats it can take a while for them to adapt.

I just can't believe taking in a cat, not looking for an owner and trying to get $200 out of someone when you haven't even given the cat a chance.

I had a cat that always, always tried to escape...he'd get out and I'd go catch him. Well, one time he ripped a hole in our screen and got out. I didn't go after him right away because I was putting my baby to sleep. When I did go find him (about 30 minutes had passed), he was no where to be found (I looked for a good 1.5-2 hours). Long story short, he's very friendly and some neighbors ended up locking him in their garage. I went door to door the next morning looking for him, and when I got to their's the wife was driving to the humane society with MY cat!!! I asked him to call her and have her bring him back. I had to show proof he was mine (ie pics). it was ridiculous. They took him because they thought someone left him behind since he was obviously an indoor cat (meaning he was well-taken care of). He was out for like 30 minutes. I was so mad. Point being, if you find a cat, don't take it in unless it's obviously neglected, because odds are there's someone out there freaking out over it.

That happened to me too! My cat and a foster got together and sliced a hole into my screen and followed each other out the window. Thankfully I was able to find both of them.

I kind of understand where some people are coming from when they try to help "stray" cats, but being such an animal lover I would go our of my way to find the owner before sending them to the shelter or finding them a new home.

Exactly. It's not like my cat was always roaming the streets. He was honestly out for 30 minutes before they took him in and then locked him in their garage over night. Poor guy was covered in car oil when I got him back. If a cat is neglected or obviously out of place, I'd definitely take him in. But not one that looks well taken care of and is in an apartment complex.

I'm so glad you got him back! Poor little guy!

Thanks, luckily he was unfazed. You could hold that cat out of an airplane and he couldn't care less. He was very chill. I was the one freaking out and checking my window every 30 minutes looking for him, and harassing all my neighbors til i found him lol

***AMAZING UPDATE***

I actually found the owner!!! The owner actually lived in my apartment complex and so did the cat snatcher! I'm soooo glad this had a happy ending!
