I am looking to sell my husbands car. From what I can tell on Kelly Blue Book what we owe is what the car is worth. Would it be worth my time selling thru carmax or selling it on my own or going through another dealer? TIA

Get quotes from KBB and compare that to what a dealer / Carmax will give to you. Don't sell it until you get multiple quotes even though I know you want it sold.

Carmax is awful to sell it thro....they offered us like 2,000 UNDER our KBB trade in and it was in great condition, they took off money because of tires, and the lift we had on it. Carmax sucks to trade in with, and bad to buy from...we found the same car for 3,000 less at a diff dealer. craigslist is a good option...

Your best bet is through a private party. Maybe a "just take over payments" type thing if you can't find someone with the cash to buy it outright.

Trading it in to a dealer or a carmax type place is going to cost you thousands.

We just sold one of our cars to carmax in Escondido and we got what KBB said it was worth. It totally paid off our loan and the process was super easy. It took about 15 minutes to get it appraised, so really no harm in trying. Good luck!

and the appraisal is good for 7 days so you have time to sit and think about it.

Did you end up getting another car through carmax? I heard they give you a better trade in value if you are getting another vehicle from them vice just selling it to them and walking away. No idea if that's true or not.

When we sold our expedition to a dealership they go by.. Suggested Retail Value and Good Trade in Value.. in between those two prices is what they give you.

They will never go by excellent for any car because excellent is like show room quality brand new every car is "good" is what they told us
