Does anyone else have a common issue with UTI's? I just had one last month, was given antibiotics and everything, finished those out and had no issues up until now. I don't know what could be bringing these on so often, but it's really getting old. I don't know if I should be questioning my husband if it could be him or not? TIA.

puppylove --- 14 years ago -

A friend of mine had one a few months ago and she was told to wear 100% cotton underwear (not thongs), pee before and after sex, also take a shower before sex, and cranberry juice is suppose to help.

TheJoneses --- 14 years ago -

Dont hold your pee, After sex make yourself pee, and drink cranberry juice.

Im sure you can google alot more things to do to keep them away. Some women just have them alot more then others. Feel better.

Something I seen:

Tips for Preventing Urinary Tract Infections

The most important tip to prevent urinary tract infections, bladder infections, and kidney infections is to practice good personal hygiene. Always wipe from front to back after a bowel movement or urination, and wash the skin around and between the rectum and vagina daily. Washing before and after sexual intercourse also may decrease a woman's risk of UTI.
Drinking plenty of fluids (water) each day will help flush bacterium out of the urinary system.
Emptying the bladder as soon as the urge to urinate occurs also may help decrease the risk of bladder infection or UTI.
Urinating before and after sex can flush out any bacteria that may enter the urethra during sexual intercourse.
Vitamin C makes the urine acidic and helps to reduce the number of potentially harmful bacteria in the urinary tract system.
Wear only panties with a cotton crotch, which allows moisture to escape. Other materials can trap moisture and create a potential breeding ground for bacteria. Avoid thongs.
Cranberry juice is often said to reduce frequency of bladder infections, though it should not be considered an actual treatment. Cranberry supplements are available over-the-counter and many women find they work when an UTI has occurred; however, a physician's diagnosis is still necessary even if cranberry juice or related herbals reduce pain or symptoms.
If you experience frequent urinary tract infections changing sexual positions that cause less friction on the urethra may help. Some physicians prescribe an antibiotic to be taken immediately following sex for women who tend to have frequent UTIs.

Good luck. :) When in doubt talk to your doctor.

Some people are just prone for it but its mainly from bacteria. I have gotten overly cautious about stuff so I won't have sex with my husband until he takes a shower (if he just came from work) then pee before and after sex and I also shower afterwards too. I know if sounds crazy but it works. I also take cranberry supplements and drink lots of water to constantly keep cleansing the urinary tract.

Dozie --- 14 years ago -

They are the most awful things. I started taking cranberry extract pills (with vitamin c). Or just drink cranberry juice everyday. What that does is the cranberry creates a lining in your bladder, making it hard for any bacteria to stick (UTI). You can just pop two vitamins before bed as a preventative. Also, like everyone else said- pee before and after sex, wear cotton underwear, make sure you're not going commando. And maybe get baby wipes to clean up after the bathroom or after sex.

SierraFoxtrot --- 14 years ago -

I get them chronically. My dr thinks that I actually have a problem with my bladder and it has nothing to do with bacteria. I pee after sex. Drink tons of water. Drink cranberry juice. All of it. But I still get them way too often. There is a procedure they can do to see if your bladder is not emptying all the way and therefore causing the UTIs. That's the next step for me.

LoveMyBoys! --- 14 years ago -

It's annoying. I pee before and after sex also. Dr said some women are more prone to get them than others. Guess I am one of the lucky ones. So i'm on antibiotics yet again! Oh the joys of being a woman. I think i'd rather have jock itch!!!

I think we are the same person, haha.

I had to have (3) 30minute iv drips of antibiotics because I had 2 in a row. After that it went away and didn't come back. Cotton undies, cranberry juice, yougurt, peeing after sex, and when foling around make sure everyones hands are clean. Yours and his. Also if your hubby services you make sure he brushes his teeth and mouth washes before. The human mouth is loaded with bacteria.

x2....make sure you stay on top of it though. Go to your dr and maybe even get a refferal to urology. I got them so much that I now have interstitial cystitis and its very painful and sucks!!

LoveMyBoys! --- 14 years ago -

I jsut had one probably 3-4 weeks ago. And I've probably had 4-5 this year. UGH!!!! I am a clean person, VERY clean. I don't know how this can happen!! lol But it sucks. I just came home from the doctor. i think my next step will be seeing a specialist

Their mommyHis wifey --- 14 years ago -

And I've probably had 4-5 this year.

Usually after having that many in a year they reccomend sending you to urology.

Mr Smith --- 14 years ago -

I used to have them weekly...finally went to a Urologist and he said I wasn't able to let all my urine out, so the bacteria would stay in there..fixed it by stretching something.

But it has nothing to really do with your husband. Here's what you should do..

-When peeing always wipe front to back.

-Pee before and immediately after sex.

-Drink a glass of water after sex.

-Showering before sex helps, but sometimes if you're in the mood, that's just not an option ;)

-There was a study that cranberry juice doesn't really help much more than drinking water. But if you do, make sure it is 100%, not the 27% cocktail kind.

-Don't wear thongs

-There is also a low dose antibiotic you can take each time after sex, which is supposed to prevent them. Ask your Dr.

Ta Da --- 14 years ago -

Haha "Baby could you brush your teeth before you stick your tongue in there?"

LadyLiberty --- 14 years ago -

lovemyboys, what antibiotics are they giving you? Is the same one each time? Your body could be resistant to one of them, but usually after the initial test they send it to the lab to see which ones (antibiotics) will work best. Have you seen the results of your urinalysis? Sometimes if ecoli is present the Drs say you may be wiping wrong, or they usually think it's a hygiene issue, not saying you have one.

CourtesyFlush --- 14 years ago -

Probiotics! They will help tremedously. My mom used to get them really bad. Since taking probiotics she hasn't had 1!

It becomes a cycle. You get one...they give you antibiotics which kill all the good bacterias in your body which can fight the infections. You need to replace the good bacterias and then take care of yourself. Plenty of probiotics and water should do the trick:)

5811wife --- 14 years ago -

I had kidney reflux when I was younger and would get UTI's and kidney infections regularly. It's where you bladder doesn't empty all the way and then some urine goes back up your ureters into your kidneys. It can be fixed with a very simply surgery.

Also if you are going to drink cranberry juice it does need to be 100% not a cocktail. The bacteria in your bladder will feed off of the sugar in the cocktail kind.

TMI, but I am also allergic to latex and any time me and my husband would use a condom, I would get a bladder infection.

Good luck, I hope you are able to get things figured out. There is nothing more miserable then a bladder infection.

Brown Eyed Girl --- 14 years ago -

I get them often!!!! It gets so bad that if I don't drink water my kidney hurt BAD!!!! So I stopped drinking soda and bought cranberry juice. So from now it is only water and cranberry juice. It sucks but some people are just pron to them.

MisssChefff --- 14 years ago -

Pee after sex...it sounds dumb but it prevents them...also you can get cranberry pills from GNC. Also, use baby wipes when you use the bathroom.

O G docswife --- 14 years ago -

Yep another chronic UTI lady here. I have been to urology, had a bladder biopsy, and still get them. Mine are so bad I pee straight blood, it is awful. I keep cipro on hand and take a dose whenever I feel one coming on.

Mr Smith --- 14 years ago -

x2. The first day I get them, there's blood.

JustJexy --- 14 years ago -

No matter what I do I get them. I take cranberry pills every morning and try to stay hydrated with water or cran juice. However, no matter what kind of chonies I wear or pee before and after sex I get them. Its a cruel world. When I was a teen they did a procedure where they filled my bladder with fluid and antibiotics for 30 mins. I didn't get one for a few months but it didn't do much help IMO. Good luck. You just have to figure out your best remedy.

Mr Smith --- 14 years ago -

JustJexy, have you gone to a Urologist? To check if you are emptying your bladder all the way?

JustJexy --- 14 years ago -

JustJexy, have you gone to a Urologist? To check if you are emptying your bladder all the way?

Yes. I have a little bit of a saggy bladder. I have been going to different doctors since I was 9. All of them really just say the same thing, that there is not much they can do.They don't think surgery would make much difference either. So I just deal with it for now.

xVivaLaDollx --- 14 years ago -

Does anyone else have a common issue with UTI's?

I use to have them all the time and I'm not sure why, but I haven't had one in a long time other then once when I was prego with my 4th. Back when I use to get them it didn't seem to matter what I did I would just get them.

Michaelsmummy2010 --- 14 years ago -

yep and if you do feel one coming on Take 2 Uva Ursi pills 3x daily and drink tons of water. Wipes away quickly without taking any drugs. You can get Uva ursi and probiotics at any drug or health store

christinmarie88 --- 14 years ago -

Yep this girl right here gets them a lot. For a little while I was getting them every couple of months. I'm just going to repeat what the other ladies have said...cranberry juice and the biggest one is pee after sex!!! I know when I was lazy after having sex because it was late and I just wanted to go to sleep after instead of peeing I would get a UTI every time, no fail. And they suck. So ever since I started peeing after sex I've had no UTIs :)

Also I heard that it's hereditary, I know that my grandma got them all of the time. Good luck!

Get off birth control!

Birth control did HORRIBLE things to me! Bad skin, HORRIBLE UTI's!

Since I went off the pill, I FEEL amazing and can't remember the last time I had a UTI, and I used to get them so much I would only drink water, and do EVERYTHING people listed above, and I would STILL get them.

Birth Control is the DEVIL! It made me sooo sick!
