Would you take your child to a fcc (in home daycare) provider?

*Sarah H* --- 14 years ago -

yes

Trixie St James --- 14 years ago -

Voted no, only because I have no job and at home all day. If I did have a job I'd choose something at night.

Not unless I knew the person VERY well, and probably not even then. Nothing against home daycares, but I prefer the accountabity that professional daycare centers have. (live cameras, more than one provider on duty, etc) Obviously bad things can happen in any situation, but it's just what I am personally more comfortable with.

I'm on the fence, I used to be a provider, so I know there are quality providers out there, but I also know that some may seem nice until the parents leave. My daughter is very active and I know they are more likely to be mistreated. I also believe she can be mistreated in a center, but I feel more comfortable because there will be more than one person daily (the other program assistant may notice and say something) and they have cameras.

I guess I should have added an other or maybe option

Every time this question comes up, I think of the story of a toddler who was killed by a pitbull that belonged to a friend visiting the owner of the in home daycare.
Or the one in Lake Elsinore where a relative of the daycare provider was dealing drugs out of the home while the children were there.
These are examples of the types of things that are much less likely to happen at a professional center.
Maybe I'm overly paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my child.

Me+3 --- 14 years ago -

For me, I've never left my kids with anyone except for my dad when I was giving birth and couldn't have them there obviously.lol.

I am one of those hyper paranoid people when it comes to my children. I wish I could be more relaxed because my hubby and I miss out on a lot- Marine Corps Balls, date nights etc, but...every time I get a bit sad about it, I think to myself, is going to xyz worth the potential fall out? The answer for me is always a resounding no.

But.... it really depends on what your comfortable with. Some screening processes are more vigorous, but I would feel more comfortable leaving my kids with a few select friends (should I have to) than anyone with a million clearances, simply because I feel I know their character.

But... if it were a long term thing I would send my kids to a daycare with with cameras. That accountability- and probably higher price tag- is worth it for peace of mind, imo.
It's a hard thing for a parent to deal with, good luck to you!

Nope. I used the CDC, but would have never felt comfortable with FCC in home provider. That's just me though.

Colonel LizZoo --- 14 years ago -

I think there are pros and cons to both and it really depends on the provider and your child.

My oldest needed an in-home provider at first. She was too afraid for a center and they wouldn't have been able to take the time she needed to adjust.

My youngest was fine in either.

My kids had good and bad experiences in both centers and in-home providers. It's all about finding what fits.

sgtswyfee09 --- 14 years ago -

I wouldn't. I'm very paranoid also. I do find it strange that I'm interested in becoming an in-home child care provider though. I wouldn't do it but I guess I can provide the service to those who would.

Does anyone have a daycare in Oceanside (preferably close by) that they would recommend? I was going to use Kindercare but I read some bad reviews here.

Lebowski --- 14 years ago -

No, I will never use an in-home daycare.

sgtswyfee09 --- 14 years ago -

ChildTime on Via Rancho Rd. I loved it and so did my son.

Bree Van de Kamp --- 14 years ago -

Is Via Rancho near the gate on mainside?

sgtswyfee09 --- 14 years ago -

Yes it is. It's very convenient!

hailstorm --- 14 years ago -

Nope. I feel a lot more comfortable leaving him in an environment that has more than 1 or 2 persons available. My baby is a little energetic and very attached to Mommy so I wouldnt want to leave him with someone who wouldnt be able to handle his anxiety when I leave. It may be a little more expensive but I'm willing to pay it. Especially since a lot of daycares now have live feeds so parents can watch their children on the internet.

Mary Swanson --- 14 years ago -

no.. i do have a wife without kids who comes to my house for my doc apts and therapy apts and she's wonderful but when we move onto base and she moves away itll have to be the cdc or pre-k

Bree Van de Kamp --- 14 years ago -

I hope the waiting list is not over a year still with the cdc!
