OK I have moved plenty of times, I think we have moved about 6 times in my husbands career so far. Now this is just me, but what is the point of getting a dog to be a part of your family, to put up posts that say... we are moving and cant afford to ship him. Um... it costs 100 dollars to put a dog on an airplane with you seriously. If you can't afford the 100 dollars to take the dog with you than you shouldn't have had a dog in the first place. put 20 dollars away for a month and there ya go. If that is the only reason for leaving him/her behind. That is just heart breaking. Im a little upset by this. if they had to go to a place that doesn't allow pets that would be one thing, but don't post about how it is the best dog in the world, and say you are abandoning it because you refuse to pay for the dogs fare.

I totally agree with you 100%. Don't get a dog or cat, knowing there is a chance you will get moved and your not willing to take the new member of the family to the next duty station.

Dwalsh sadly ppl don't think that we moved and granted are dogs are under 10lbs but where we go they go. I don't even think twice of paying the fee. but atleast they are trying to find it a home :)

Drama Llama --- 17 years ago -

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that is being irresponsible. I feel bad for the dog

Drama Llama --- 17 years ago -

but atleast they are trying to find it a home :) Yes that is a good thing, I agree instead of sending it to the shelter. I hope someone takes it

Sara --- 17 years ago -

I agree. The only thing that annoys me more with animals is people who get rid of their pet because they suddenly fell in love with another one they just can't live without. Well that, and the people that get a pet and then cry when they can't afford to feed it or take care of it properly. I know there are situations and circumstances that sometimes make it impossible to avoid giving up the pet, but I think it all has to do with responsibility and their mentality towards animals. Some people just don't feel the need to be a responsible pet owner or just view their pets as a fun disposable toy. Some people just plain suck at life and there's not much you can do about it...

Some people just plain suck at life and there's not much you can do about it... LOL its true and sad

I agree too!! I took my dog to Italy with us! I think it was $250 and I had to get an airline approved crate BUT SHE IS MY BABY!! I would have never left her behind! Oh yeah and of course I paid it again to bring her back with us! ;)

Bama --- 17 years ago -

Ok i have a silly question. I got my dog after I moved out here and if I decided to move back home next year he of course is going with me, but how do i get him on the airplain and where would he have to fly? Please don't tell me under the plaine they should make special planes for us pet people

LOtotallyVE --- 17 years ago -

I agree with you on not getting a dog if you can't afford it, but, to ship my dog, the cheapest is $700. It goes by their weight inside the cage and the dimensions of the cage. I have two dogs that must be in the largest cage they make. It's a minimum of $500 for that size cage. That's over a grand to ship my dogs. However, you'll see my husband for sake before my dogs. They do fly cargo unless they are under 15lbs. Then, they can fly with you. However, there are PLENTY of pet airlines where the only thing they ship are pets.

Drama Llama --- 17 years ago -

I don't care if it is 3000 dollars lol this dog is going with me no matter what lol. They make it very affordable LOtotallyVE I have no idea who you fly with but that is ridiculous. We always fly with south west and the most we have been charged to bring our VERY large dog home lol (I have one too) is the cost of another ticket and south west always has the go fares, the last tickets I got to the east coast were 110.

*TEXASAnGel*(tl_photography) --- 17 years ago -

mind you they whey under 10lbs I fly with AA and they charge me 60 for both and they sit under my feet.If you call the airline directly they will try the best to get you a seat with your pup

LOtotallyVE --- 17 years ago -

I forgot weho we used. We couldn't use the cheap airline because the doors to their planes wouldn't have accomodated the cage. Like four airlines don't have planes that fly to NC that are big enough for my dog's cage. Freaking ridiculous! I told me hubby we are putting him in a cage and dressing the dog as a human next time.

*TEXASAnGel*(tl_photography) --- 17 years ago -

LOL thats a good way to put a dog in a plane

Drama Llama --- 17 years ago -

see now this makes me more angry because this is a small dog that is posted so it is even less money. Totally- I have the crate for a great dane, and they had no problem getting it onto the plane at south west. It sounds like someone was trying to get some money out of you

Drama Llama --- 17 years ago -

It;s like the biggest freaking crate you can buy without having to build one lol

LOtotallyVE --- 17 years ago -

I have the same crate. RDU only allows certain airlines certain sized planes. I don't know why. I'd rather drive with my puppy anyway. Now, I have two of them, and I wouldn't pay to ship either of them. LOL We'll drive, hubby can ride on the roof. LOL

TanyaT. --- 17 years ago -

wow is all i can say so we r moving to nc and having to live in an appt while we wait for housing.... so instead of taking our dog and hoping we cant keep her we found her a great home.... when you have a family sometimes unfortunetly things need to be done to survive... it killed us doing that but we knew it was best i just wish people would think befor they go off the handle about things sometimes

Drama Llama --- 17 years ago -

no tanya this is nothing against you. the person posted that they can't afford to fly the small dog home with them; it is a small dog and would cost max 100 dollars to ride in flight with them, not because of living situations. I said I could understand that we had to move somewhere a few months ago that didnt allow pets because of the housing waiting list. thank god I didn't have any at the time or I would be devestated, I would take them to my mom though to keep and then get them when I could lol Im sorry if you took it the wrong way.

Monster* Mouse --- 17 years ago -

I know i would do anything i have to to take my pet (if i had one now)meaning if that means Roadtrip to be able to keep my dog which is a family member i would do that.i hate ppl getting pets and then just leave them behind. sorry

~*CK*~ --- 17 years ago -

yeah it kinda irritates me too. I am driving mind you from here to florida, all because of my sun conure marley. Birds and planes dont mix lol

TanyaT. --- 17 years ago -
