Has anybody ever vacationed in Hawaii and what would you recommend? We are looking for like a place very close to beach...would prefer to NOT stay in a huge hotel/motel. Looking on line is almost bewildering..and it does not appear that you get what you think you are getting. I would like a condo or time share close to beach....ANY IDEAS...GIRLS??????

CPPrincess(Mystic chocolate) --- 15 years ago -

some ladies here are from there and can give you LOVELY ideas

Meregold --- 15 years ago -

would prefer to NOT stay in a huge hotel/motel That is going to be next to impossible in the Ohau/Waikiki area. If you want to be more secluded check out Kauai or even Maui.

OMG Love HI. It is the best place to go. We have gone a couple of different times and stayed at the Hale Koa Hotel - which is the military hotel there. It is amazing cheap and really nice. You can save a lot of money by staying there. Hale Koa Hotel

I like how they leave you a dialy lost of activities every week That was nice. Once we even took a space a flight there and saved a crap load of money.

Its clean,...and everyone is friendly

It is possible, but the only time shares I have stayed in were in the big resorts. I did fly over and surprise my husband at the very last minute a few years back and got the hotel off Hotwire for $50/night. When we arrived we just paid some extra money per night and upgraded to a beach front room. I don't remember what part of Maui it was, but it was closer to the airport than it was to Lahaina.

Id say Hale Koa, or the bases offer cottages and military hotels for cheap :) We were on Kbay and it is gorgeous over there and right next to the water. We also did the volcanos on the big island. :)

If you go to Oahu I have info for you , I dont know anything about Maui though. If you stay on the Island of Oahu theres 2 towns you can stay in (off bases) either waikiki the tourist town, or kaneohe .. there are cottages there and its much quieter. I can find the number if you want it. Or you can stay on the Marine or Army base. Possibly the Naval base but im not sure. For that youd have to ask someone who had been stationed there... I am a native though

justagirl --- 15 years ago -

Kbay has awesome cottages on the beach...very quiet and secluded and about a 20-25 minute drive to town...you'd call the lodge on Kbay for reservations...

Susan --- 15 years ago -

O wow...awesome girls....thank you so much....I did want to stay at the Hale Ko...but like I said...hubby wants something more like a cottage...Where is Kbay...that sounds exactly like what I want....

K bay is the marine base there. It is about 30-45mins from wakiki depending on traffic btu definatly the place to stay. Best beaches on this side. Kailua beach and lanakai! We just came from there :)

Yeahbaby --- 15 years ago -

KellyS - when we were there in March, we toured KBay and went to the exchange and everything. I really want to get stationed there. We talked to a few people and they said it was nice but rained a lot and some of the locals were not nice to the military. Is rain and not being nice true?

K bay is the marine base there. It is about 30-45mins from wakiki depending on traffic btu definatly the place to stay. Best beaches on this side. Kailua beach and lanakai! We just came from there :) K bay is the bay at Kaneohe... thats what they call the Marine base though. there is a set of cottages in the town , not on base and you can walk to the bay from there.those are the cottages I was talking about.i hear base is nice too though and maybe cheaper. I honestly , from living there and growing up dont suggest Kailua or lanikai beaches,.. theyre dirty and everytime it rains too much the sewers flood over into the beach... nastay!! lol

hulagirl --- 15 years ago -
